What you should do to succeed with your homework research

Regardless of your college major, you will certainly be given a large assignment that requires you to do research as homework. Being able to conduct research is a skill that people will need throughout their lives and college is a good place to begin practicing. In order to succeed with your college research projects, there are a few ways to guarantee your success:

Know the terms you want to search: When you are researching, you will need to understand how searches work. Nearly all searches involve the traditional search engines, so they all work with keyword searches. In order to get what you want, you need to know the keywords to use in the search engine. With the right keywords, you will get what you want.

Understand how search engines work: Search engines work with both keywords and with money. The major search engines make money based on what people are searching and that money is made by the companies who want to be found. So, regardless of your search, you will end up with results that have been paid for by companies. The companies that pay the most will be at the top of the list. Placement on the list does not mean that the site will be the best choice to use for your research. It only means the company paid to get there.

Know your suffixes: When you are doing online research, you must know what the suffixes mean. The most common web addresses include .com or .net. These do not mean that a website is good for research. Some of the best websites for collegiate research are the .edu and .gov. While the .com and .net are most often used by commercial sites, the .edu and .gov are used by educational and government sites. You cannot use a .edu or .gov URL unless you are creating a website for the federal government or for a real educational institution.

Learn to recognize the junk: There are too many website that are pure junk instead of the ones that are actually useful. You will need to learn to recognize a website made by a legitimate organization that conducts research before posting to the Internet. These sites are usually sponsored by non-profits, professional organizations, and news agencies. The only problem is that many of the sites are biased in some form, so be sure to look for those signs.
